LAST OF THE DAHLIA DYES THIS YEAR.

This is one of my two pots I use for mordant for fabric and later dyeing it has a glass lid so easy to see what is going on and avoid the worst of the fumes from the mordant in this case alum which is very toxic to inhale.

A collection of dahlia tops which have produced some nice shades of yellow.

Onions dyed without mordant. Blue Faced Leicester.

Two dyed with dahlias one with carrot tops and the pale one with just the carrot roots top not the greenery. Blue Faced Leicester. Alum mordant.

Left two carrot tops greenery very disappointing despite a very large pot of greenery. Waste fleece dyed with second pot from dahlias above, I am hoping to use to make some felt. The small green skein is just the petals from a cerise coloured collection of dahlias, an experiment to see if by leaving the rest of the flower parts out I might capture the cerise colour - sadly no. The fleece to the right was also from that pot. Alum mordant.

The very last of this years dahlia flowers ready for one last skein of Blue Faced Leicester which has previously been mordanted with alum.
