EUNICE - A ROMNEY X JACOB FLEECE

This Romney x Jacob is ok but still rather a coarse wool so not something to wear next to the skin but idea for seaman's socks for wear with wellingtons.

It was easy to prepare by just grabbing a handful and wiping across a hand carder then carding with second one and ready to roll into rolags.

The rolags spun beautifully I spin three rolags then a separate three and ply together.

Mike trying the first sock for size with Meg getting in on the act.

Someone kindly shared this sock patter on one of the Facebook groups

SOCK PATTERN

It’s actually pretty simple schematics, just increase girth or length...

For 4 ply ave size 6

CO 60 sts rib circular or DPNs

Cont st st to ankle length required

Heel: half sts on hold ie 30 other half slip first st knit back and forth 30 rows this makes the flap and because you slipped first st you have 15 obvious loops each side

Short row shape in (about 17 across then back and forth incorporating a st each side until all sts back in knit) this creates the heel turn.

Pick up 15 sts on one side of the flap + 30 on hold + 15 other side of flap and you have 90 sts = widest part ie ankle

*Knit one round, next round knit two together at the end of the heel flap side (where flap meets the 30 you had on hold) knit 30 knit 2 together* and so on, continue these alternate rows until the heel flap side 15 are all incorporated and you are back to your original 60st

Continue the foot

Decrease in for toe

Kitchener off

But of course my yarn was thicker and after one or two false starts I cast on 46 stitches in the round and knitted rib for 10 rows then knitted for about 40 cms then followed the gist of the pattern for the heel and knitted a further 20 cms and reduced stitches for the toes at each end of each of 4 needles for two rounds then either side of sock only for remaining until about 8 stitches remain the cast off two stitches at a time.

I would definitely like to spin just Romney on it's own not a x with Jacob again though.
